In India, Uber is competing with the locals Ola and Zipcar, and is still a small player (operating in around 12 cities vs +100 for Ola). A way for the company to win market share is, as in other regions in the world (mainly with its acquisition of Jump Bikes in 2018), to offer micromobility services through its app.

As it has been highlighted by Akash Gupta, Mobycy’s CEO, in a previous post, the Indian market is quite specific, and with one of the highest potential worldwide. To develop the micromobility market there, Uber made the wise choice to partner with the local company Yulu, currently operating in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, and Bhubaneswar. Yulu’s fleet consists of conventional bicycles and sit e-scooters poetically named “Miracle”.

This pilot, available in Bangalore, will offer to Uber customers the opportunity to try one of Yulu’s vehicles. However, the option is not yet embedded into Uber’s app, as clicking on “Try Yulu” will redirect you to Yulu’s app or lite app. The offer includes 3 free rides per month, up to 60 minutes on a Miracle or 90 minutes on a Move (conventional bike).

The financial details have not been disclosed yet, but you can expect to see the Yulu x Uber offer to expand to other cities where both companies operate.
