Mobike named “Champions of the Earth” by the United Nations Environment

BY   Alexandre Gauquelin

Mobike has recently been named in the 2017 Champions of the Earth by the United Nations Environment, “in recognition of the company’s transformative contribution to the advancement of low carbon public transport”.

This sentence opens the debate, as the environmental impact of a public transport has to measure the production, operation, and recycling cost. With the recent photos from China, including Mobike bikes, people became aware of where the sustainability of dockless bike-share ends. The reality of “green economy”.

On the other hand, this technology helped to bring a phenomenal amount of riders on the saddle in such a short period (200M Mobikers in only 19 months). Unquestionably, it is giving a great visibility to cycling as a mean of transportation, and has been a switch in the mind of many urban citizens.

So… good or evil, the debate is open!
